Nathan Severson helps people who have been catastrophically injured through the fault of others. As a personal injury/insurance attorney for SW&L Attorneys, Nathan fights for his clients, who are faced with making claims against big corporations and/or insurance companies unwilling to pay full and fair compensation for the derailing of the injured party’s life. Nathan refuses to be intimidated by the other side, and doesn’t back down in his search for justice for his clients.

Following law school, Nathan moved to Las Vegas to practice at a large firm, where he represented various doctors, insurance companies, and other individuals who were defending a lawsuit after injuring someone. After 7+ years, Nathan decided it was time to come back home to North Dakota and help people who have been injured, rather than continue to use his abilities to help those who caused injury and avoid responsibility. One advantage Nathan’s experience in Las Vegas provided him, is he was able to see the “tricks of the trade” used by insurance companies to avoid paying for damages caused by their insureds.

Following high school, Nathan attended North Dakota State University and received a degree in Political Science with a minor in Business Administration. After graduation, Nathan worked for a company that served North Dakota and Minnesota with services for house arrest, which gave him insight into the judicial system. Nathan enrolled in law school at the University of North Dakota School of Law, where he earned his law degree with distinction in 2005.

During law school, Nathan had the honor of arguing a mock appellate case before the North Dakota Supreme Court with his law partner Greg. After his first year of law school, Nathan had the privilege to extern for Judge Kermit Bye in the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. In the summer of 2004, Nathan worked as a summer clerk for a law firm in Fargo. Nathan was accepted into the Order of the Coif (awarded to the top 10% of his graduating class) and the Order of the Barristers (awarded for advocacy skills).

Nathan was born and raised in Cooperstown, North Dakota, where his family owned the local grocery store. Nathan decided to get into business at a young age when he bought the local milk delivery business that delivered to businesses in Cooperstown, Finley and the surrounding area. Nathan’s Dad and Mom stressed and instilled in him the value of hard work and customer service, along with a sense of community that is important in North Dakota. In his spare time, Nathan enjoys golfing with friends, spending time at the lakes with his fiance, volunteering time or attending charity events, and spending time with family.

SW&L Attorneys

SW&L Attorneys’ mission is to help people. It’s that simple. Helping people means serving people. We are committed to providing our clients the best service we can from Fargo, North Dakota.

We are experienced. Each of our lawyers concentrates on a particular area of law. We are not generalists. At least one of our attorneys has likely dealt with a legal matter similar to yours several times. Repetitions with the law and the process give us the experience to help you navigate your legal matter. Each of our attorneys focuses on continuing education specific to his or her area of practice and strives to be a leader to better serve our clients.

We are approachable. Lawyers do not have to be stuffy suits, and we are not. Most people are not involved with the legal process on a daily basis like lawyers are, and we understand keeping a “nonlawyer” perspective is important to our ability to communicate with our clients. Lawyers do not have to speak over their clients, and we will not.

We are responsive. We understand your legal matter is one of the most important things in your life right now. It may be the most important thing in your life right now. Legal matters can be stressful, but being informed is often the best remedy for the stress. We will answer your phone call. We will reply to your email. We will keep you reasonably informed about your legal matter.

We focus on solving problems with common sense. We will first discuss your legal matter at length with you in order to understand your objectives, questions, and concerns. We will evaluate your legal options and discuss them with you. If we don’t think we can help, we will tell you and do our best to find someone else who can. If we think we can help, then we will tell you. If you hire us, we will discuss and explain legal strategy and tactics. If negotiating is in your best interests, we will advise you to negotiate and explain why. If taking it before a judge or jury is in your best interests, we will advise you to litigate and explain why it is in your best interests. We seek to resolve problems instead of create them. If you are looking to fight for the sake of fighting, we are not the right law firm for you.

We measure and evaluate the right things. Many law firms evaluate their attorneys on one metric: the billable hour. We are a business and must be profitable, but we do not focus only on the billable hour. Billing as many hours as possible does not line up with your interests. Instead, at the conclusion of each matter, we survey each client’s satisfaction. We evaluate our lawyers based on our clients’ feedback. We listen to our clients, then adapt and adjust.

We want to make a difference. Severson, Wogsland & Liebl, PC formed after our founding attorneys became frustrated with the old law firm status quo. We are eager to earn a reputation, and we do not take anyone for granted. We have grown from three lawyers in 2013 to eight. We believe our growth is attributed to our philosophy resonating with our clients. Our clients are by far our number one source for referrals.

We are a team. If you hire our law firm, you are hiring a team. For each matter, we assign a practice group made up of several attorneys and support staff. One lawyer will be the lead and your main point of contact, but the lead attorney will delegate to and consult with other lawyers and support staff to provide timely, efficient, and cost-effective legal service.
